Craps is a fantastic game to play in the casino because you can throw the dice yourself and the best atmosphere is usually found here because the players can build up great camaraderie as they feel like they are all betting against the casino together.
How to play Craps Dice
Here we will explain the basic principles of craps which is a 2 stage game. A puck on the table will show OFF or ON. When the dice puck shows OFF you are at stage 1 and whoever holds the 2 dice is called the shooter. To be invited to throw the dice you must participate in the game and you can do this by placing a bet on the PASS LINE or the DONíT PASS area. You should think that betting on PASS is that the shooter is going to be lucky or DONíT PASS as unlucky. Being lucky means the shooter continues to be the player entitled to throw the dice and unlucky means they will lose the right to throw the dice.
At the start of the game when the dice puck shows OFF the shooter must throw a 7 or 11 (the two that rhyme) and anyone who bet on the PASS LINE instantly wins an equal amount to the value of their bet. Conversely anyone betting on the DONíT PASS loses their bet. However, if 2,3, or 12 (the craps numbers) are rolled then the DONíT PASS win their bet, doubling their bet and the PASS LINE lose. If any other number is thrown (so if youíre keeping up thatís either 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) then this number thrown is used to set THE POINT and we move to stage 2 of the game, the PUCK is flipped over to ON and the puck is placed over the number printed on the table thereby showing everything what the POINT currently is.
To explain stage 2 letís say the number 8 was thrown. The point is 8 and the dice button is ON and in the box numbered 8 on the craps table layout. To make the point (or pass the challenge if you prefer) the shooter now has to throw another 8 before they throw a 7. Also please pay attention that all the PASS LINE and DONíT PASS LINE bets are now locked until the POINT is resolved so you can not remove or change this initial bet on PASS or DONíT PASS you just have to wait until a 7 is rolled or the point number is rolled, any other numbers do not matter. If that was all this would be rather tiresome and not much fun so at stage 2 all manner of new bets can be made on what will be rolled next. Weíll add a link later to explain all the other possible bets!
If the shooter is successful in throwing the POINT number (in this example 8) before a 7 then the PASS LINE bets win and DONíT PASS bets lose. The shooter can start again at stage 1, the puck goes OFF and we start all over from the beginning. If the shooter rolls a 7 then thatís a fail, PASS lose, DONíT PASS WIN and the dice move along to the next dice shooter, make sure you have your bet on PASS or DONíT PASS so you are invited to be the next shooter.
